Midwifery training in Afghanistan

Afghanistan | January 2016 - December 2016 | Cap Anamur
Afghanistan has an extremely high maternal and infant mortality rate. This problem is particularly prevalent in rural areas and is increasingly forcing mothers to relocate to areas with better care. As part of the training project introduced by the Cap Anamur Deutsche Notärzte e.V. humanitarian association, women will receive two years of training to become approved midwives. Young families will then be able to return to the native villages they left due to the lack of resources.

So far, approximately 130 midwives have be trained. The project plays a key role in the fight against the high maternal and infant mortality rate and allows women in a very patriarchal country to access vocational training. Sharing specialist knowledge is one of the most important tasks.
