New educational perspectives for disadvantaged children in Dam Rong District

Vietnam | since March 2024 | terre des hommes
Children going to school
This education project focuses on Dam Rong District, one of the poorest districts in the country and Lam Dong Province. Three quarters of the population belong to an ethnic minority living in extremely disadvantaged conditions. Parents' awareness of their children's education is limited and the economic challenges faced by families have placed a heavy burden on education expenditure.

The Beurer Foundation supports this terre des hommes project to enable vulnerable and marginalized children to access quality education. The project work aims to create a protective and supportive environment for disadvantaged children.

Every year, 210 ethnic minority children receive support through the project in the form of scholarships or school materials to enable them to continue their education.

In addition to providing school scholarships and supporting families, the project activities focus on raising awareness among the population and those responsible at district and municipal level. Material is developed and made available for this purpose. In each of the eight municipalities, project staff conduct training for civil servants and community members on child rights and child participation. These are supplemented by regular radio broadcasts and newspaper articles to raise public awareness.
