Sierra Leone | since January 2024 | Für Sierra Leone e.V.
The majority of girls and young women in Sierra Leone remain excluded from participating in social, cultural and economic life. They face significant inequality of opportunity and limited rights and opportunities in many areas of their lives. The impacts are already evident at school age, such as the particularly high dropout rates of girls in Sierra Leone. As a result, women in Sierra Leone are often denied access to decision-making positions in all sectors of society.
The Girls Empowerment Program of the association For Sierra Leone e.V. aims to empower Sierra Leonean girls in the fields of education and personal development so that they can develop into independent and successful young women. The program strengthens and supports particularly talented and motivated girls aged 15-18 from disadvantaged and financially weak households. Girls are given the opportunity to develop their potential, develop themselves and achieve their academic and personal goals.
The Beurer Foundation has been supporting this holistic and sustainable promotion since January 2024 with the module "Saturday Classes". The module contains weekly in-depth courses in relevant core subjects as well as other subject areas from the environment to biology. The sessions are complemented by monthly life skills meetings, which allow the girls to exchange on sensitive and often taboo topics such as reproductive health, menstruation, gender-based violence. At the same time, girls are also empowered in areas such as leadership, financial management and career training.
