Educational support for students joining the German education system

The Beurer Foundation has been supporting the project "Educational Support for Lateral Entrants into the German Education System" with IN VIA JMD, Ulm, for many years.
Young new immigrants are to improve their German and mathematics skills through individual or group programmes.
This enables them to successfully complete school and make the transition to vocational training.

The different educational backgrounds of the immigrant children and young people require individual support measures in order to ensure successful integration into the school system.
Another component of the support is the open learning meeting. A place of encounter where diversity is naturally lived. Pupils from Year 5 up to A-levels learn together here and are supported by learning companions.

The learning meeting also has an impact beyond pure learning: it opens up educational pathways, changes perspectives and shows that solidarity-based commitment is contagious. In this way, a concrete, human and sustainable sense of community is created, ensuring that equitable education benefits everyone.
